In 1998, the theatre underwent major renovations to become a true fine arts facility.  The renewed lobby and auditorium were presented to the public in  a grand reopening on February 25, 1999.

MCTI HISTORY

MCTI is located in the old Palace Theatre at 119 North Main Street in Greenville, KY. The Palace Theatre is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.  Silent movies and vaudeville acts were presented at the Palace Theatre in the early 1900's, progressing to "talkies" when they became popular. The theatre closed in 1970 and was later used as a wrestling arena. In 1983 MCTI purchased the establishment and converted it into a stage performance theatre.

The renovation project was funded by a $6,300 grant from the Kentucky Colonel's Association and $3,700 in donations from local businesses. The work force, with the exception of the  professional painters, was comprised of volunteers.

Key to this restoration project was Bobby Gardner, A  retired school teacher and excellent carpenter.  Bobby devoted many months to preserving this Greenville landmark.

Thanks Bobby!
